Failt reagh

hi!, welcome to this wiki. As you can see, we're a very very little wiki.... you're welcome!! Now I can't work here (i have to study a lot), but in holidays I will help here again!! Greatests from yn Çheer Bascagh!! --Norrin_Strange (Talk) 17:07, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

  • Hi! No there aren't sysops in this wiki. There are a lot of registered users, but all of them inactive. Your manx language is good, and probably better than my level, so don't worry about it! My holidays start in March 18, I will try to help working here. Sorry for my english, I was born in Galicia and I only speak perfectly Spanish and Galician. --Norrin_Strange (Talk) 22:02, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

interface - translations reagh

Hello MacTire02, I have seen on Your userpage that You can speak ga, gv, and others, I would like to invite You kindly to betawiki: where the translations of the interface for all wikimedia-foundation-projects are done.
If You are interested helping us translating the interface (also for gv :)) please register an account at betawiki: and leave a message at betawiki:Betawiki:Translators and You will be granted translator-status immediately.

Thank You, best regards, --eean (:> )=| 17:24, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Invitation reagh

As an Administrator, you are allowed into #wikimedia-admin, the cross-wiki coordination channel for Wikimedia administrators. Any member of the channel can invite you in temporarily, but you need an invite exemption from a channel operator to get in whenever you want. Please come to #wikimedia and ask for an invite.

Any admin from any project is welcome and it is a good place for cross-wiki coordination of vandal and spam fighting. It is also useful for new admins to contact more experienced admins in real-time to get help with the more complicated admin tasks such as history merges/splits and importing via Special:Import.

Best regards, --eean (:> )=| 18:36, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Broken namespaces reagh

Hi, MacTire02. I saw today that some links don't work properly anymore. For instance, try the 'Athruithe is déanaí' on the sidebar. I believe the URL has been translated but the namespaces haven't. To translate the namespaces at Betawiki, go to Special pages, choose "Extra translation" (or something similar to that) and choose "Namespaces" on the combo-box. Regards and keep up your excellent work! Malafaya 13:29, 16 Averil 2008 (UTC)Reply

Malafaya - you are a life saver. I noticed it last night and spent a long time trying to figure it out. I'll do that ASAP. Thanks a million --MacTire02 13:31, 16 Averil 2008 (UTC)Reply
Anytime ;). Malafaya 13:32, 16 Averil 2008 (UTC)Reply
Actually there's something weird here. I can't seem to find "Spesialta" (Special namespace) anywhere in the localization. Do you know where it could have come from? Malafaya 13:41, 16 Averil 2008 (UTC)Reply
I know that Irish (Ga) was used as a back up language for a couple of days before it was restored to English. Perhaps something got lost in the process. Apparently there was a bug or something. Is that any help? Sorry, I'm not the most computer-literate of people. --MacTire02 13:53, 16 Averil 2008 (UTC)Reply
It probably has something to do with it. That and a chronic bug in Mediawiki that causes the sidebar to fallback to an older version once in a while. I just purged it and it should be solved now. Next time it happens, just click here. Cheers, Malafaya 14:09, 16 Averil 2008 (UTC)Reply
Excellent! Thanks a million. --MacTire02 14:11, 16 Averil 2008 (UTC)Reply
Now something unrelated: I noticed you use Talk:Ard-ghuillag for "community talk". Isn't that the purpose of the page Wikipedia:Ynnyd y phobble? ;). Malafaya 14:36, 16 Averil 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yup! Something that will have to be looked at once things settle down here after the language change. Thanks a million again for the help with this by the way. Very much appreciated. :) --MacTire02 14:48, 16 Averil 2008 (UTC)Reply
Also, how do the changes I make in Betawiki transfer here, and how long does it take for them to take affect or is there something I could do to speed the process up? --MacTire02 14:49, 16 Averil 2008 (UTC)Reply
The new changes get live when developers decide it's time to upgrade the wikis to a newer version. Usually it takes something between a couple of days to a couple of weeks. A typical timespan is one week. Be patient :). Malafaya 14:52, 16 Averil 2008 (UTC)Reply

Translation reagh

Mac, if you have enough skills and disposition, could I ask you to translate the missing templates on this page from the original ones in English? Thanks a mil, Malafaya 15:18, 16 Averil 2008 (UTC)Reply

No probs. I doubt I'll get to it today but I'll do it before the week is out. --MacTire02 15:30, 16 Averil 2008 (UTC)Reply
It's already a big deal if you do it. There's no rush at all. My deepest thanks. Malafaya 15:33, 16 Averil 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK it turns out I got some time this evening to go over that a few minutes ago. I've translated it for you now if you want to have a look at it :) --MacTire02 18:58, 16 Averil 2008 (UTC)Reply
It looks great! :) Thanks. Why are there two periodd at the end of sentences? Malafaya 19:03, 16 Averil 2008 (UTC) P.S. I just noticed some more translated messages here. I guess they updated the sites a while ago.Reply
Oops. My mistake. Sorry about that. I'll fix it as soon as. MacTire02 19:07, 16 Averil 2008 (UTC)Reply
You never know. It could be some weird thing about the language ;). Thanks again. Malafaya 19:09, 16 Averil 2008 (UTC)Reply

A little help: Ecser reagh

Hi! I'm a Hungarian Wikipedia editor, my name is Norbert Kiss. I'm very proud of my village and I want to read about it in every langauge of the Wikipedia. OI translated it already into 10 languages (now there are 35 translations there, including Cymraeg, too.) Could you help me? I would like to read it in Scot Gaelic, Irish Gaelic and Manx and Cornish Gaelic, too. Could you translate the page of my village into one or more Celtic languages? The Manx and Cornish tarnslation interest me very, there are only a few editor here with these knowledge. The English page is here: [Ecser], and my Hungarian page is: [Eino81]. Thank you for your help! - Norbert from Hungary

No probs Norbert. I won't get to do it over the next day or so but definitely by Tuesday you will have an article on Ecser ayns Gaelg. --MacTire02 13:41, 18 Boaldyn 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK, thank you very much!! :) - Norbert
Hi! It looks great! Thank you! - norbert

Bots on the loose :) reagh

Hi there. My name is Alison - I recognise you from ga.wikipedia. Anyways - I just happened to be stopping by this wiki and noticed that there are a huge amount of interwiki bots running here, and without bot bits, they're flooding recentchanges. Mind if I take some time to implement the global bot policy here, corral and document them all, and see they get bot bits? I've done this already on ga.wiki, ga.wikti and gd.wikti, where I'm sysop. It'll make things immensely tidier and easier for the one sysop here (you! :) ). I'll just need to pick up a temporary 'crat bit for a few days via Meta. When done, I'll likely move on again. Thoughts? - Alison 05:46, 22 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply

Haigh a Alison! Go raibh maith agat as an chabhair. Beidh mé an-bhuíoch! That'd be very helpful Alison. You have my support for that. If there's anyway I can help just let me know although I don't know much about the bots. --MacTire02 09:46, 23 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply
GRMA, a chara. Tá an iarratas curtha isteach anois.[1] Méaranna trasna :) - Alison 00:51, 24 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply
Oooh - I appear to have a sysop and 'crat bit for a week. Yayy!!! I'm working on the bot stuff now and should have it finished today or tomorrow. I'll likely use a mix of Gaeilge and Béarla so you might want to followup and Manxify stuff behind me :) - Alison 17:00, 24 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply
Nóta: Your MediaWiki default and MonoBook css and js settings are totally messed up. I'll fix them too, in a while. Did that on gawiki only the other day :) - Alison 19:52, 24 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a million for all the hard work Alison. Very much appreciated. --MacTire02 20:16, 24 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply
PS. On the edit pages the following has appeared:
  • Beidh do chuid athruithe infheicthe ar an toirt.
  • Má theastaíonn uait rud a thástáil, bain úsáid as an gclár dubh.
  • Tá fáilte romhat alt nua a thosú nó feabhas a chur ar alt atá ann cheana. Cabhróidh an comhphobal leat cloí leis an gcaighdeán.
etc. Do you where I can translate that information along with Ionsáigh beside the character sets into Manx? --MacTire02 20:20, 24 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply
Oh, yeah. You're a sysop so you can fix them, too. Just click on MediaWiki:Copyrightwarning and edit away on it. Can you possibly do me a favour if you get a chance and maybe translate this into Manx? That'd be awesome. Oh, and as if you'd not enough to be getting on with, can I lure you into creating an account on gawikti? We've basically revived the wiki from certain death in less than a year and now it's absolutely buzzing with activity. Moilleadóir is over there, too :) - Alison 00:49, 25 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply
PS: Where I can, I've kinda defaulted to Gaeilge, as it's likely to be far more palatable to the Manx ear (lol - mix of metaphors) than English. Hope that's okay - Alison 00:51, 25 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply
PS: Is it that entire page at gawikti that you'd like translated into Gaelg or just a line under Maidir leis an leathanach seo? --MacTire02 13:31, 25 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply

Maith agat reagh

... for that block there. Hope you like the new css and js updates! Stuff like RecentChanges shows up the file deltas in red and green depending on what was done to the page, etc, etc. Things are working way better now as all that MediaWiki stuff is up-to-date. Feel free to get stuck in and change stuff - just be careful of the Javascript, because that can break the site! The bot stuff is nearly done now, too - Alison 09:10, 25 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply

css?? js?? I'm good at languages Alison but only human languages ;) As for computer programming and stuff like that I haven't a clue. Sorry! But I do see the changes that have been made and they look fantastic. Thanks a million for all the hard work. As for the block, don't worry about it. You do seem to have a lot of people out to get you - weirdos! Anyway thanks again :) --MacTire02 09:15, 25 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply
All part of being an admin on enwiki and doing interwiki work. Johnny the Vandal loves teh wimminz and follows me around like a puppy. Ignore. BTW - your knowledge of Gaeilge Mhainnin is only superb! I'm guessing you're not a native speaker, but your translation work is awesome. I can just about read it - switch it phonetically into Irish - and it seems to make sense. I'd love to learn more and would like to maybe stick around as an editor and do some gnoming work when all the admin/cratwork is done. Would that be okay? - Alison 09:18, 25 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply
Perfectly fine by me Alison. No I'm from Meath living in Sligo and never been to the Isle of Man. I only started learning Manx in January but it's so similar to Irish that it makes it very easy to learn - and the grammar is simpler. There are the odd few words that will trip you up (les faux amies) but don't worry about that, and sometimes the grammar does seem closer to Scots Gaelic but don't worry about it. On my user page there are a couple of good resources, particularly mannin.info. That's a dictionary but it also gives you sentences with the word in context. Also, I do try to use the Fockleyr CnyG as well for any terminology. Sure if you get stuck with any aspect of it just give me a shout and I'll be more than happy to help. --MacTire02 09:25, 25 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply
Great! I'll see what I can do. When I get a spare moment, I'll go over the graiméir and stuff. BTW - bhí mé im chónaí i gContae na Mí, freisin - lán tamaill o shin anois. Long story, too :) Baile Átha Troim ;) Anyways - it's lovely to see this wiki come back to life and get a serious tidy-up. Well done! - Alison 09:50, 25 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply
Wow! Bhí cónaí orm 5 mhíle as Bhaile Átha Troim freisin (sráidbhaile beag darb ainm Beigtheach. Tá mo mháthair fós ann agus tá gaoltaí agam i Ráth Chairn in aice le Baile Átha Buidhe. Anyway - best of luck with the grammar. Great to see you here :) --MacTire02 09:58, 25 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply
Whoa! :-O Tá an-fhios agam faoin baile seo. Is as Cill Measáin agus Cill Teidil mé agus is minic a bhí mé ag iascaireacht sa Bhóinn in aice le Beigtheach, leis mo col-ceathair, nuair a bhí mé óg! Tá chuid do mo chlainne ina chonaí sa Bheigtheach fós. Daithí O Mhuireagáin agus a bheán céile nua. zOMG - small world, eh? - Alison 10:14, 25 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply
Small world is right. Chuaigh mé ar scoil go Scoil Naomh Mhuire, Baile Roibín, agus tar a éis sin, go Scoil na mBráithir i mBaile Átha Troim. Uaireanta, nuair atá an t-am agam, téim go Contae na Mí mar tá cáirde agam fós ann. Bímid ag ól i dTeach Tabhairne CLG Dún Samhnaí!! Chan fhuil sé ar oscailt ach ar feadh cúig bhlian nó mar sin. Iontach! --MacTire02 10:21, 25 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply

← I have to be careful what I say as Béarla here, mar tá a lán cluasa timpeall, an dtuigeann? ;) However, pints in the Luderman's under the bridge. Now that, I remember well. There, and the Slither (Gilsenan's to the non-natives). I think the latter is actually gone now. Watch for the guards around there, though - they're all my rellies! - Alison 10:31, 25 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC) (and poor you with the Brudders. They were lethal!)Reply

Ah well the brothers were gone by that stage. The name stuck. It was St. Michael's Diocesan Secondary at that stage and it's gone now. The Tech and the Brothers merged - Boyne Community College it's called now I think. Idon't know the Slither now at all I have to say. Never been to Luderman's either. As for the guards - I'm a good boy so I won't worry about that :) --MacTire02 10:57, 25 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply

One thing ... reagh

I see you translating some of the /en localizations for MediaWiki pages. Just remember, too, that they won't affect the Manx versions - they're the native versions, so if you've your preferences set to béarla or gaeilge, you won't see the changes. I've deliberately switched my prefs here to Manx to make sure I don't edit the wrong namespace :) - Alison 10:20, 25 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hmm. Have I done any damage do you know? --MacTire02 10:22, 25 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply
Actually I think I do have my preferences set for Manx. I hope at least. Sorry about being useless at this computer lark! --MacTire02 10:23, 25 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply
Not at all. You can't really do any damage that can't be undone, so ná bac leis. Just hack away at it. I'll fix up the funny stuff ;) - Alison 10:26, 25 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply

All done! reagh

Haigh, a Mhac Tíre! Wow - you are seriously busy right now. My work is about done here - at least all the bureaucrat donkey-work, and I just need to update Wikipedia:Robotyn and tag all the bot userpages. Even common-delinker is translated now and I think you'll agree, RecentChanges looks a whole lot better than this mess :)

Either way, I'll still be here contributing as an editor of little (Manx) brain, doing what I can while learning a bit of çhengey-ny-Mayrey Vannin and hey - good luck in your RfA here, you more than deserve to pass and this site needs you!! Beir bua, a chara - Alison 20:20, 30 Mean Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply

Message to Meta stewards; as editor here and ex-temporary bureaucrat/sysop, I strongly support re-granting MacTire02's access for another temporary period. He has done phenomenal work here - Alison 07:54, 14 Jerrey Souree 2008 (UTC) (meta-wiki sysop)Reply

Yes, I know that, see some sections above :o) He is doing a great job on betawiki, the interface just looks great :) Just as a reminder, maybe more towards the commons thingy, I would be happy if more uploads (the free licences) went to commons. Mac Tire02, if You need help in adjusting the interface for gv there let me know. Best regards to You both, --eean (:> )=| 10:10, 15 Jerrey Souree 2008 (UTC)Reply
